Prepare For Your Travels

  • Apply for the 30 day Tourist e-Visa from the  Immigration Department website for $25.

  • COVID-19 restrictions have been relaxed, including need for a vaccine certificate.

  • Cash in local currency. You can get this delivered at home; airports charge higher fees for currency exchange.

  • The only bank card you can use to withdraw local currency abroad from an ATM with no additional fees is the modern Starling Bank.

  • You must buy travel insurance, including cancellation, damage and injury.

  • Check that your passport is valid for half a year before the date of your return flight.

  • You will need a drivers license for ID to buy drinks and enter clubs.

Phone your GP to ask for a record of which vaccinations you already have or are due a booster for and let them know you're traveling.

Private Providers
  • Lots of high-factor sun cream in both spray and cream form. You can buy more expensive nice cream just for your face in smaller sizes.

  • Let's face it, it's inevitable you or one of your buddies is going to get sun burnt, so pack some after-sun, sun moose, or good old aloe vera.

  • Buy proper spray-on mosquito repellent with DEET or Picaridin.

  • Any medication you rely on for existing medical conditions, as you might have difficulty in finding it in Vietnamese pharmacies.

  • We do not take responsibility for exposure to allergens and any subsequent reaction which you should insure you have the correct medication for, e.g. EpiPen.

  • Tweezers and nail cutters; nails grow faster in warmer climates.

  • Antacid, diarrhoea, laxatives, rehydration sachets. There's varying interpretations of hygiene where you're going, and you don't know how your body will react to trying new food, so better safe than sorry.

  • You will be exhausted most nights from all the fun, but some people just can't sleep while traveling, for example on a night coach, so think about packing earbuds, sleeping pills, or an eye cover.

  • Worldwide travel plug adapter. eBay

  • Small rucksack for excursions in addition to your suitcase.

  • Sunglasses are a must, or you'll be squinting.

  • Charging leads and a battery pack.

  • Swimwear and a lightweight quick-dry towel.

  • Flip flops or sandals are very convenient.

  • Proper supportive hiking shoes with grip to get wet and muddy and a pair of comfortable robust trainers you don't mind going out in.
